It is projected that in 2030 the three largest states will be California, Texas and Florida which will have moved past New York into third place. These three states, with a combined projected population of 108.5 million will account for almost 30% of the total population in the U.S.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website has a LQ calculator that allows anyone to compare the employment activity levels in multiple sectors among different areas of the country. The LQ calculator uses data from the BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages.
The National Association of Realtors® reports that between 1980 and 2000, the number of households headed by unmarried women increased by almost 10 million. Along with forming households, women are buying houses. One in five homes purchased in 2004 were purchased by single women, compared to only one in ten being purchased by single men. More women (15.5 million)
than men (11.8 million) lived alone and among these 56% of the women owned their home compared to 47% of the men.
